AUSTIN, Texas — President Trump has long promised the mass deportations the country has been seeing over the last several weeks, with the stated goal of going after those with dangerous criminal records first.
That hasn’t always been the case, as many people without criminal records are being detained too.
Austin Immigration attorney Iris Albizu says it’s been a busy year so far.
“We’re seeing that there is, kind of like, no compassion,” Albizu said. “We have seen more clients that are trying to stay on top of their cases, that they want more information on what’s going on.”
But it’s not just because of fear and uncertainty of deportation by the Trump Administration. She’s currently representing a man who is being detained after being pulled over for speeding.
