AP News recently published a press release highlighting Iris Albizu, founder of Albizu Law Firm, and her recent appearances on The Law Firm Growth Lab and Partnerships for Profit. Across both conversations, Albizu shared more about her approach to family law, bilingual client service, leadership and her experience building a law firm as a Puerto Rican-born attorney and mother.
On The Law Firm Growth Lab, Albizu discussed her firm’s work with families throughout Central Texas, including divorce, child custody, child support, visitation and grandparents’ rights. She also explained why having a fully bilingual team matters when clients are already dealing with stressful and deeply personal family issues.
“You can feel confident that you have a staff and an attorney that understands your language and can help you and guide you through the process,” Albizu said.
Her conversation on Partnerships for Profit took a more personal look at her journey. Albizu discussed growing up in Puerto Rico, finding her path into law, moving to Austin and eventually building her own practice while raising two children without extended family nearby.
She also spoke about how her experiences as a Black Latina and native Spanish speaker have shaped the way she leads her firm and connects with clients who may feel overlooked or uncertain when navigating the legal system.
While the two conversations covered different parts of her story, a common theme was clear: communication and empathy matter. It’s an approach Albizu carries into her work with families facing difficult legal situations.
“We try very, very hard to emphasize to our staff about that empathy and why we’re here and why we’re doing this,” she said.
